Corruption is possible when both sides take part of it. Don't you think?

So, corruption takes place when you want it to. Otherwise it just cannot happen.

There are many stupid things all over the world. In every country, including mine and yours. In some places it is more, in some places it is less.

Just remember what was the situation in UK, say 100-150 years ago. Not much better, to say the least.

We will recover, but it needs time.

Go visit Greece. 60 years ago the situation there was exactly like it was in Bulgaria at the same time. If not worse. Greece got better, let's say in the recent 15-20 years. But nobody was disturbing them to do so. Situation in Bulgaria was a little different, and I am sure you are pretty aware why. Many "western" countries (many eastern also ), took a pretty big role of it.

In fact we are "independend" country.. let's say... for the last 18-19 years.

So make your Conclusions...

Noone says you can not express your feelings about all the stupidity here.

But make it a bit more constructive, not destructive.

Thare is already a discussion about "dirty car" action in the forum. If you take a look in it, you will see that many of forum members (including me) are exactly at your position.

You didn't got my point. I wasn't offered participation in corruption but I needed to pay up because the Astra beggers needed 10 leva, and I'm a foreigner. Therefore they stopped me.

Of course, this results in hatered. I hate the Astra prostitutes. When I see parliament makes stupid rules in order give them even more opportunities... I will... ***destructive***

About the situation in Bulgaria, I don't answer you. I'm sure many feel the way I think, others will be offended as I, a foreigner, comes to insult you (what I don't want to do).

My point really was, why you guys keep on accepting, this parliament (which is basically still the same as when you weren't free).

Well, here is the simple answer:

Bulgarian patience and tolerance is well known everywhere. Just think - every single country in this region, had or has, problems, riots, ethnic intolerance, genocide, and at the end - many more problems and dificulties afterwards, many innocent victims, and so on.

This never happened in Bulgaria. And if it depends only from us - it will never happen. But history has a strange sense of humor sometimes.

We are the one and only country at the region that has no problems whatsoever with it's neighbours. Don't think that we don't have enough historical reasons for this. We have more than enough.

Ask yourself why? Then you will understand the whole picture here.

It is a pitty, but every thing has it's price. And right now we are still paying our price.

It just needs time. Time for our patience to come to it's end. Nothing more. And this time is not so far from now I think...

Edit: By the way "Astra beggers" and "Astra prostitutes" is a pretty good explanation. But for 10 years, i have never participated in single corruption act. So there is a way. But it has it's cost also, just like everithing else. It is more difficult for foreigners to get used to it, but with time you will find your way.

Dirk, sorry to say it, but you seem to be a complaining type. A more positive look at the world would save you much!!! For years now I don`t participate in the corruption scheme. That is, I never pay extra for something one is obliged to do for me - in all institutions.

There is a lack of discipline in Bulgaria, that`s true, but it`s also true that what it comes is up to your mental and spiritual adjustment. If you behave like a victime, you`ll be treated like one. Cheer up! You`ll be surprised what you can get with a propper attitude to the world!

П.П. I can`t imagine how you can live in a country for six years and not learn the language !!! It seems like a confrontation and denial to me...

Petia, I live and work in a village with villagers. Says enough, I think.

BTW I speak the language well, and read it ok but slowly. Reading a forum... that's another thing. Writing... you won't understand me form all the mistakes.
I know how the advantage is when you're confrontated with another language or writing. We don't have any dubbed movies, so english comes natural and from very young age. We're not confrontated with cyrillic, like people in Bulgaria. So you must have it much easier with latin then me with cyrillic. But then again it is not really a good excuse, is it ?

As a matter of fact no one needs to pay up unless one has violated some rules and the choice is "pay up or bear the consequences". One has always a choice not to get involved in police corruption and refuse to bribe officers.
With over 20 years on Bulgarian roads I've had on several occasions traffic policemen asking for money but it has never been without me giving them an opportunity for this. E.g. by driving a little bit faster than allowed.
So, based on experience, I would guess that this was what has happened.
And if this was so, then you have become a part of the problem you were complaining about ...

If they stopped you for no reason, you do NOT have to give them anything. Being a foreigner does not make you more vulnerable. Perhaps it's just the opposite. Arresting a foreign national for no reason could backfire on them because one would expect the respective embassy getting involved at some time, so I very much doubt any traffic policeman would get in so much trouble for 10 leva.

Did you really see something like this in this particular case? Or just heard some rumour? To the best of my knowledge, as of this moment there are NO new rules concerning penalties for dirty cars. It seems that some police officer made a stupid comment in an interview and then the press blew this story out of any proportion ...

As far as stupid rules and driving over police officers are concerned, then I guess one could find a stupidity or two in many countries' legislation. However this gives no one the right to attack policemen. Be it for the simple reason that usually it is not the police officers who write the laws. They are just supposed to enforce them.

Hi, man! All that you say is cool, but you act just in the contrary..... You say: "I don't like corruption!", but bribe cops, you say: :The bulgarians screwed me up", but what personally I or member of this forum did to you? You complain that we tell you if don't like the place, just go home. What else have you expected, when you started bitching here with no reason at all? Well, I know the cops in BG are not the best guys in the world, but where they are? May be in UK there are no dirty cops at all?! Sorry that you feel that way, I currently live in a foreign country and know what you feel, but when the things are this way, we just have to comply with them. The foreigner everywhere is just foreigner. Btw, sorry for the language I used last night. I didn't really mean all I said . If you will take an advice from me-make friends with the people from this forum and will see that the bulgarians are not as bad as you think ...
