If I bought one from the UK then I would definitely want to register it in Bulgaria otherwise I would have to bring it back every year to the UK for an MOT (annual test).

We have our own house in Bulgaria but we are not permanent residents so maybe your suggestion of contacting the British Embassy might be a good one. Personally I have a feeling I would get more help from the members of this forum than form the British Emabassy though!

It worths to give it a try. And you are right about the MOT. In this case it's better to get a truck from here, but I don't know what the order is to register it. Your embassy or council will help the best if they give you the info. We have some lawyers here but I'm not sure this is in their area. If you want, I can post a topic for you in bulgarian with a question and if somebody knows something, I'll translate it back in english here.

Sure you can drive around here as long as u wish with your UK registration, but once it comes to paying insurance, the prices are 3-4 time higher than if u have Bulg. plates.
If u like to register a vehicle here, call my wife+. She's having business in Balchik related to all those document stuff and things, and her office is right next to the new Municipality building.
think it will be cheaper and faster if u call her.

I must say again how good it is for people to be so helpful. I am really pleased I came across this forum.

I will Email you wife Gadeff and see if I can understand what is required before I actually come over again, I don't want to waste time when I am there. At the moment my time in Bulgaria is precious as I don't get enough of it. Maybe this will change one day (I hope).

I don't see why insurance should be 3-4 times more expensive when driving with UK plates. I'm also driving with belgian plates on my touareg and I pay the regular (already very expensive) insurance, but certainly not any different than if I had bulgarian plates.

p.s. I wouldn't worry about the MOT too much, police here wont know when you need to do it so you'll get past that. If you drive back one every few years - it's ok.

But do make sure you have a complete omnium insurance, or your car WILL get stolen.

You won't need MOT to drive here, you can drive with Bulgarian Insurance and Bulgarian Annual Car inspection, it won't be a problem

Well its time for my first visit to Bulgaria this year.

I have decided to buy a car over there and I am looking for a something like a Suzuki vitara (small to medium sized car).

Does anyone know of any possible cars for sale around Balchik, Varna or Dobrich? Or could anyone post a note for me on the Forum?

I am in Balchik from Friday 28th March for 1 week. I would be very grateful for any assistance or information as to where I should go to look.
