Hi all firstly what a great forum and thanks for letting me join. I am currently serving in the British Military and due to leave next year after 24 years. I am hopfully going to settle in Bulgaria and intend to run a enduro tours. I have been riding within the Military for 20 years and have rode in most countries. I have just completed a charity event riding from Holland to Tarifa (Gibralter) 6500kmh off road and have the road book and gps infomation if anyone is interested. Does anyone forsee any major problems with starting this sort of company within Bulgaria will be publisiing for tourists from UK,Scottland and Irland through TBM.

I have a KTM EXC 450 for enduro and for the longer trips i have a KTM adventure 640 but its just been bored out to a 660. Great bikes and very relyable. Is there plenty of KTM dealers in Bulgaria?. I am visiting Bulgaria in late November looking for property looking forword to arriving in Varna.

Yes we have official KTM dealer here. And also many guys from the forum who can help with everything about your bike..

Welcome Jim.

I would like to suggest you visit Bulgaria before finally deciding to settle for good or choosing your business enterprise. Varna is a good choice, ranking second in economic figures, however it is better to conduct a reconnaissance tour beforehand, given you military background ;-) Be extra cautious when making such important decisions as things are not always what they seem and it would be a pity if you find yourself disappointed in the future.

Anyway, you have come to the right place. Lots of people round here can assist you in your "make or break" endeavor.

Hi mate thanks for the advice will be looking deeply into everything before a final decsition is made. I have a brother who already lives out there and he loves it. I havent lived in UK for around 8 years so i wont miss it and my family are use to other countries and travel it will be nice to settle somwhere we can call home doing somthing i love.

My biggest worry is schooling for my 2 children (twins) aged 9 is there boarding schools??? still hoping to get to Varna for November, December.

This is not a problem at all. You can find English schools in all big cities here (and even in many small towns).

no ASAIK. some private schools, but I am not sure they have boarding sistem. will be hard for them in to the public shcools. if you're going to settle in Sofia I might be able to help you with some private schools, not for the rest of the country.

Hello mate,

Not to worry about schools, I am positive that now in Bulgaria there are thousends of Brits living, where I reside summer time ( North East Bulgaria by the sea small town called Kavarna) there are maybe 1000 or even more brits and for sure they have worked something out, definately there are even UK teachers in some areas.

If you go NEast near or to Varna you can find decent places to live and decent schools and etc.


About Sofia 1000% you wont miss UK in the terms of having everything here, nice shops, nice beer comunity and etc.

Feel free to ask us at least for advise, any trouble you face any question that worries you - ask mate, we can help.

When you sort your self out with vehicle we can take you out on Off Road trip where you can exchange some phone numbers with us.

Last but not least, mate you better choose rather large citys than nice quite areas, yep its cool clean and quiеt there but it is too rural for a foreigner with family, you wont have good medics there nice shops, transport and stuff that you depend on, just to mention as well that summer time everywhere is nice but during the winter you hardly see a walking man in them nice villages, just have that in mind...
